Hattonchâtel is named after the 9th century bishop of Verdun who built a fortress on a rocky promontory overlooking the "plaine de la Woevre". Cardinal Richelieu had parts of the building destroyed in 1634. Just after the first world war, Belle Skinner, an American lady who had fell in love with the village and helped to restore the castle and the ancestral history of the region.
What you find now is a charming village located on the "Côtes de Meuse" and offering many interesting sights on the "plaine de la Woevre".
